Generics are same as branded mecicines

One can switch or directly start taking a generic medicine whenever he wants like a branded one. However, some limitations are always there. A generic medication is a copy of branded drugs with the same dosage, intended use, outcomes, side effects, distribution path, risks, safety, and strength as the initial drug, but with less price. In other words, their pharmacological effects are almost the same as those of their brand-name counterparts.

The efficiency of generic medicine is the same as the branded one because before coming into the market, generic has to pass through the bioequivalence test done by WHO_GMP and CDCSO. Therefore, whether you are looking at over-the-counter products (maybe ibuprofen vs. Advil store brand) or a doctor’s prescription, generic medicines are a perfect option due to the same active ingredients. So, since the generic drugs are as effective and reliable as branded ones and available at low cost, unlike a branded one, it is always better to purchase a generic than a brand name medicine.

However, in certain conditions, switching to a generic drug from a branded one can be harmful. This is because, in generic medicines, inactive ingredients or fillers are different from those of a branded one, making them look different. These small changes sometimes do have a significant impact on how your body responds. Conditions like seizures, hormonal imbalance, allergy, psychological illness, are sensitive to slight drug changes. Thus, it is always better to ask your doctor before switching from a branded to a generic one. But, all in all, purchasing generic medicine is always better.
